Today, Philip Dunne MP issued the following press release:
Dunne expresses doubt on wind turbines overlooking Bridgnorth
Local MP Philip Dunne today expressed his concern about proposals for two massive wind turbines straddling the Jack Mytton way at Underton near Bridgnorth.
Mr Dunne said: “I have met both the proponents, Crida and Share Energy, and members of the Stop Bridgnorth Wind Farm Action Group objecting to plans for two large wind turbines. I expressed my initial concerns about the environmental impact to the promoters, in particular their decision to site the turbines straddling the Jack Mytton Way, one of Shropshire’s leading bridleways. Having now visited the site, in an elevated position overlooking Bridgnorth and surrounding villages, I have realised that large scale turbines would be visible from many miles around, including parts of Wolverhampton.
For this reason I have written to members of the Action Group and the proponents of the scheme confirming that I have severe doubts about these proposed turbines at this location.”
Mr Dunne’s specific concerns are that:
- These wind turbines will be visible from many miles around, including from the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
- The wind turbines would straddle the Jack Mytton Way, one of Shropshire’s leading bridleways – and one of national significance; and
- The wind turbines would be within direct line of sight of the radar installation on the Titterstone Clee Hill.
Mr Dunne has been invited and agreed to attend a meeting on Wednesday 28th September called by the Action Group at Morville Village Hall at 7.30pm at which he will listen to the concerns of those present.
